Soledad, CA : 50% Of Health Care Costs Caused By 5% Of The People : View From A Private Duty Caregiver - Health - Anti Aging

Soledad, CA : 50% Of Health Care Costs Caused By 5% Of The People : View From A Private Duty Caregiver Serving Carmel, Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Gilroy, Gonzalez, Greenfield, Hollister, King City, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Salinas, San Juan Bautista, Seaside And Soledad California There has been so much written over the past year over the huge burden health care costs are putting on society. But few people realize it's just a select group of people which are driving up health care costs dramatically. Most of them are seniors with multiple health problems which are forcing them to make frequent trips to the hospital, with expensive rehab therapy after their release from the hospital. Just 5% of Americans account for a full 50% of our national health care costs, about $36,000 each (health care costs totaled $1.26 trillion in 2009). And 1% of the population accounts for 22% of health costs, about $90,000 per person, according to the Agency for Hea lthcare Research and Quality. About one in five were in the top 1% at least two years in a row. This shows how important it is to stay on top of chronic diseases so health issues can be resolved before they turn into a hospital visit. Medicare is starting to force hospitals to focus on this issue. They recently released rules stating that they will not reimburse a hospital if a person is readmitted for the same condition shortly after being released. Health care costs are a huge issue and I'm hopeful that new rules requiring health care providers to provide higher quality services at a lower cost will be successful. /news/washington/story/2012-01-11/health-care-costs-11/52505562/1
