Why computer games have became a family activity - Entertainment

In todays society there can often be a lot of pressure on families and professionals to cram a lot of commitments into their time and, because of that, instant gratification is often looked for in hobbies. As information has become immediately available and even a delicious meal has become incredibly quick to prepare, it is no wonder that computer games are now as popular as they have ever been. Years ago they were largely the domain of teenage bedrooms and student flats, but now computer games have successfully breached every facet of society. From stay-at-home mums looking for a quick exercise fix, to bored businessmen looking for a distraction on their daily commute, the popularity of computer games has come down to the fact that today there really is something out there for everyone. For perhaps the first time ever, playing computer games has even become a legitimate family activity, whereas just a few years ago games consoles were being called the death knell of the f amily dynamic. However it has now been suggested that playing games as a family helps create a stronger positive relationship, and this is probably even more accurate when parents are able to find common ground with their children and teenagers through gaming.Today, instead of parents fearing the effects computer games may have on their children and the unending peer pressure that comes from having to keep up to date with the latest expensive console game, they can join in. Not only is it a great way for the family to spend time together, and relatively cheaply too, but it is also the perfect way to make sure your child is only playing games suitable for their age group. Of course, computer games dont have to stop at action-packed shoot em ups and cryptic fantasy multi-players either. There is a huge selection of both family-orientated games and educational games, both of which can be fun alternatives to traditional gaming options.Pick the right game and right console, like the very interactive wii for example, and a simple family night in can become exciting, bonding and fun, all of which help form the basis of a healthy family relationship. Just as its become quite acceptable to rely on other technologies, like sticking on a DVD for the evening, computer games have earned their place in the family home. There is currently a huge demand for family-suitable computer games and therefore the choice is huge, but games like Loons - The Fight For Fame (available on the Xbox) and the PS3s Little Big Planet 2 are both great introductions to problem-solving platform games, that adults will love just as much as kids.
