I don't like when people are too lazy to work a couple of hours at making their internet home based business successful and then complain it doesn't work. So stand still because I'm about to shoot straight.

1. Be sure to start by targeting a profitable market.
Save your sighs and moans and your "I heard this before" statements in your head, please. I wouldn't say it again if people weren't constantly trying to do it. If nobody is searching for your product please don't try to market it.
To make sure people are searching for your product use a free reliable search tool like Wordtracker. Here is the link / If you find your keyword phrase is getting at least 25 searches then it's worth promoting. If not hang it up. That simple.
2. It's an INTERNET HOME BASED BUSINESS! Not an internet home based hobby.
Sound simple right? It is, but people won't let it be that way. Go to any popular internet forum and you'll see a million complaints of "Well I tried that before but it didn't work." Oh yea? Well how much time are you going to dedicate to your business? One day a week for about 10 minutes? Hang it up. Oh the business works... you just don't.
Listen, if you'd work seriously 1 hour each day you'd make more progress than not being consistent. So be consistent. Once you master 1 hour a day you'll see sales and you'll also want to put in more time to see even more sales.
Another thing, stay focused and only promote one product at a time. A jack-of-all-trades approach doesn't make money on the internet. So leave that approach to your handyman. Notice how most of them are broke too? The money is in specializing. So stick to one product or service at a time.
3. Online training system - preferably with video.
This sound familiar: "You'll get over the shoulder, step-by-step screen shots of how I made $11,548 in one week!" Well, as hyped up as it sounds, thats what you want. You want the over the shoulder, step-by-step screen shots. Think about your nine to five... isn't that how they trained you? OJT - On the job training.
It's no different in your internet home based business. You want a training system that gives you video training tutorials or step by step easy to follow instructions so you can duplicate their success for your own.
Just telling you the truth so you can book the next flight out of "La La Land" so you can actually be successful in your internet home based business. I'm successful already, so take it from me.
